SPECIAL TECHNIQUES
TURKISH/EASTERN CAST-ON
Hold the circular needle tips together
in the left hand and tie a slip knot on the
bottom needle. Wrap the yarn under the
needles, up the back of the needles and
down the front of the needles; wrap yarn
around a total of three times. Pull the
bottom needle tip forward ready to knit
the sts on the top needle tip. Then work the
first row of the garter stitch tab.

PATTERN NOTES
The shawl is worked from the top down.
It begins with a small provisional Turkish/
Eastern cast-on and a garter stitch tab,
although if you prefer you can simply
cast on 9 sts and knit 1 row before
beginning the garter stitch section.

Watch Anniken’s video tutorial on the
Turkish cast-on with garter tab here:

Only RS rows are charted. See pattern for
WS rows.

The instructions for the shawl start on
page 74, following the written instructions
for the chart patterns.
