The Reunion
Radio 4, 11am
This never-less-than-
engaging series now
reassembles the key figures
in the so-called McLibel saga,
when the fast-food giant
McDonald’s began an action
against two Greenpeace
activists — Helen Steel and
David Morris, right — who
had distributed leaflets
claiming that the company’s
burgers were both unhealthy
and bad for the environment.
The pair were unable to get
legal aid and so faced the
prospect of having to
represent themselves in court.
Keir Starmer was a young
lawyer at the time and was
keen to help, offering his
services free. Ben Dowell
