When you can’t get safely into position
for your shot, the option of breaking out another lens
can make all the difference. lee Rouse (leejohnrouse.
com) went long to capture this amazing image.
“While watching waves crash violently against
a cliff face while taking other pictures one morning,
i had the idea of capturing a simple image of this
beautiful coastline in cornwall. i had a minimal
composition in mind for this image in which the hard
surface of the rock face and the ever-changing sea
andfoamshowcasedtheopposingforcesof nature.
“t houghi wantedto be straighton andas closeas
possibleto therockfaceandcrashingwaves,this
poseda challengebecausethelowerportionsof the
coastlineherearetreacherous.i cont emplatedusing
mydrone,butit wouldhavelackedresolution,so
in stead,preferringto usemy DslR and a longlens,
ilocated anareaon thecliffswhichalloweda near
fr ont-onview.thelongfocallengthcreatedenough
compressionof perspectiveto appearthati was
lo werthani actuallywas.i processedthisimagein
adobe lightroom,addingsomecontrastanda little
cl arity,uppingthesaturationof thegreenseaand
pushingup thehighlightsof thefoam.”
