CHAPTER 43 SEBACEOUS ADENITIS, GRANULOMATOUS 651
Vitamin A: 1000 IU/kg q24h; do not use with retinoids.
Bactericidal antibiotics (e.g., cephalexin 22 mg/kg PO BID).
COMMENTS
Urge owners to register affected dogs so that mode of inheritance can be determined.
Sebaceous glands are not able to regenerate after complete destruction; lifelong ther-
apy is necessary to help remove excess scaling and replace lost sebum.
Hair regrowth is variable and is frequently a different texture from the original hair
coat (i.e., loss of curl in poodles).
