Afoxalaner
Antiparasitic drug.Isoxazoline: selectiveinhibitor of arthropodGABA andL-glutamate-gatedchloride channels.
Labeled use: flea and tickpreventative. Off-labelefficacy against sarcoptidmites and demodicosis.
Dog: 2.5 mg/kg every 4weeks po.
Amikacin (Amiglyde-V[veterinary] and Amikin[human])
Aminoglycosideantibacterial drug (inhibitsprotein synthesis).Mechanism is similar toother aminoglycosides(see Gentamicin sulfate),but may be more activethan gentamicin.
May causenephrotoxicosis with highdoses or prolongedtherapy. May also causeototoxicity andvestibulotoxicity. (SeeGentamicin sulfate.)
Once-daily doses aredesigned to maximizepeak minimum inhibitoryconcentration (MIC) ratio.Consider therapeutic drugmonitoring for chronictherapy. (See alsoGentamicin sulfate.)

Amitraz (Mitaban)
Antiparasitic drug forectoparasites. Used fortreatment of mites,including
Demodex.
Inhibits monoamineoxidase in mites.
Causes sedation in dogs(α
-agonist), which may 2
be reversed by yohimbineor atipamezole. Whenhigh doses are used, otherside effects reportedinclude pruritus, polyuriaand polydipsia (PU/PD),bradycardia, hypothermia,hyperglycemia, and(rarely) seizures.
Manufacturer’s doseshould be used initially.But for refractory cases,this dose has beenexceeded to produceincreased efficacy.
10.6 mLconcentrated dip(19.9%).
