Flunixin meglumine(Banamine)

NSAID. Acts to inhibitcyclooxygenase (COX)enzyme, whichsynthesizesprostaglandins. Otherantiinflammatory effectsmay occur (such as effectson leukocytes), but havenot been wellcharacterized. Usedprimarily for short-termtreatment of moderatepain and inflammation.

Most severe adverseeffects related to GIsystem. Causes gastritis,GI ulceration with highdoses or prolonged use.Renal ischemia has alsobeen documented.Therapy in dogs should belimited to 4 consecutivedays. Avoid use inpregnant animals nearterm.

Drug interactions

Ulcerogenic effects arepotentiated whenadministered withcorticosteroids.

Not approved for smallanimals, but has beenshown in experimentalstudies to be an effectiveprostaglandin synthesisinhibitor.

250 mg packetgranules; 10,50 mg/mL injection.

1.1 mg/kg once IV, IM, SCor 1.1 mg/kg/day 3day/week po.Ophthalmic: 0.5 mg/kgonce IV.

5-Fluorouracil(Fluorouracil)

Anticancer agent.Antimetabolite. Action isvia inhibition with nucleicacid synthesis.

Causes mild leukopenia,thrombocytopenia. CNStoxicity. Do not use in cats.

Used in anticancerprotocols. Consultanticancer treatmentprotocol for precisedosage and regimen.

50 mg/mL vial.

Dog: 150 mg/m

once/week IV.Cat: do not use.
