Rifampin (Rifadin)

Antibacterial. Action is toinhibit bacterial RNAsynthesis. Spectrum ofaction includesstaphylococci andmycobacteria. Othersusceptible bacteriainclude streptococci. Usedin people primarily fortreatment of tuberculosis.

Adverse effects notreported in animals, but inpeople, hypersensitivityand flu-like symptoms arereported.

: Multiple drug

interactions are possible.Induces cytochrome P450enzymes. Drugs affectedinclude barbiturates,chloramphenicol, andcorticosteroids.

Results of clinical studiesin animals have not beenreported. Use in animals(and doses) based onexperience in people oranecdotal experience inanimals. Rifampin is highlylipid soluble and has beenused to treat intracellularinfections.

150, 300 mgcapsules; injectionsolution: 600 mgRifadin IV.

Sarolaner

Antiparasitic drug.Isoxazoline: selectiveinhibitor of arthropodGABA andL-glutamate-gatedchloride channels.

Vomiting, diarrhea,neurologic symptoms.

Labeled use: flea and tickpreventative. Off-labelefficacy against sarcoptidmites and demodicosis.

Dog: 5, 10, 20, 40,80, and 120 mg.

Dog: 2 mg/kg every 4weeks po.
