Warren Keelan
Warren Keelan is a seascape and ocean photographer from
New South Wales, Australia, who specialises in wave and
underwater photography. His images have been awarded
highly in prestigious competitions including The
International Landscape Photographer of the Year. Find
out more about his work at http://www.warrenkeelan.com.

There are many approaches
and angles that Warren has
experimented with, when it
comes to capturing the waves.
‘If you want to take shore
break shots then a wideangle
or a fisheye lens is the place to
start,’ he advises. ‘I did that
for a few years at my local
beaches.’ However it wasn’t
until the photographer added
a telephoto lens to his kit bag
that his style began to take on
a new form. ‘By mixing up the
lenses and using a telephoto
lens it just completely changes
everything,’ he explains. ‘The

perspective shifts, and when
I got my 70-200mm I found
I was using the lens at 100mm
plus for most of my shots.’
Warren finds that the longer
lenses work on both large and
small waves. ‘You can sit back
further from the action yet you
can still capture something so
intense that it makes you feel
like you’re right up there.’
As for now Warren will
continue to run his own gallery
and keep travelling to exciting
places around the world with
his photography. ‘I’m travelling
more frequently in order to

experience and photograph
different parts of the world’s
coastline and its many
inhabitants, including white
sharks, humpback whales,
turtles and manta rays, to
name a few. The majority of
my work and happiness comes

from spending hours in the
ocean interpreting light and
moving water. Shooting the
ocean for me is all about
the escape, pure and simple.
Coming away with an image
that I’m happy with is a
rea l bonus.’
