hat is white, flat
and has four sides?
Answer: a blank
sheet of paper.
For writers, staring at a blank
sheet (well, a blank screen) and
not getting the words out as the
clock ticks down is a disheartening
experience. No one reads blank.
Blank is surrender, and blank with a
deadline that has passed is a curse!
Many people know this condition
as ‘writer’s block’. The symptoms
are familiar: the words dry up, first
sentences are endlessly revisited
and rewritten; coffee breaks don’t
help, inspiration is absent.
It’s not unusual for photographers
to experience something similar:
when you feel stuck in a rut and
keep returning to the same location
or subject, repeating the same type
