their own new treatments using iPS cells. At the Gladstone
Institutes in San Francisco, I have a role as a scientist. I have
been working on something different from iPS cells, so I really
want to advance that new science as well in addition to the
medical application of iPS cells. That’s two of my goals or
dreams in the next 10 or 20 years.
HS:Yes, I have something very complementary. I’m a
Director at the Max Planck Society, and that allows me to do
basic research. At the same time, I’m building an institute in
Munich, with the support of the State of Bavaria, where we’re
trying to use iPS technology to do drug screening with disease
models. This is something that I would like to continue in the
future—to do something for society.
