Which forest do
you belong in?
WANT MORE DINOSAURS? Head over to page 22 to meet the
giraffe-like dinosaur that ruled Africa’s Jurassic-era forests.
TEMPERATE FOREST
These leafy forests can get chilly—and you’re very chill.
Like the little weasels that thrive through all four seasons
in the temperate forests of Europe, your easygoing
personality helps you fit in wherever you go. You mostly
hang back in social situations, but you make an impression
when you need to ... just like a shy little weasel pouncing on
a vole, the small rodent it preys on.
WANT MORE WEASELS? Check out page 16 to discover how little
weasels use the forest cover to help them hunt.
BOREAL FOREST
You’re always ready for an outdoor adventure, and a
boreal forest can deliver the adrenaline you seek.
Siberian flying squirrels—found in forests throughout
Europe and Asia—flourish in this environment, too. These
tiny aviators use membranes of skin on both sides of their
bodies to glide 20 feet aboveground. Sure, you can’t fly—
but you’re not ruling out bungee jumping in the future.
WANT MORE SQUIRRELS? See page 14 to discover how these
animals raise their babies in treetops.
KELP FOREST
Kelp forests are often packed with animals—sort of like
how you’re always surrounded by friends. You prefer group
activities to going solo, as do the sea otters that float in
groups of up to a thousand at the top of these habitats in
the Pacific Ocean. Birds and big cats are cool, but you’d
rather spot the whales, nudibranchs, and sea stars that
swim through bustling underwater kelp forests.
WANT MORE SEA OTTERS? Flip to page 20 to discover how
sea otters help keep kelp forests healthy.
TROPICAL RAINFOREST
Like a colorful tropical rainforest, you’re never boring.
And like the green-and-black poison frogs that populate
rainforests in Central and South America, you bring
excitement wherever you go. When these tiny frogs are
threatened, they can secrete enough poison to stop a
human’s heart! Instead of poison, you use your words
to stand up for yourself and your friends.
WANT MORE FROGS? Check out page 18 to discover where
green-and-black poison frogs lay their eggs in the rainforest.
PREHISTORIC FOREST
Scientists don’t know a lot about the prehistoric forests
that disappeared millions of years ago—like you, these
places are a little mysterious. But they do know that
the dinosaurs that lived there were definitely cool and
unusual ... also like you! You’re not ancient like these
animals, but you’re slightly more mature than most of
your friends and usually the one to try new fashion and
music. You’re also known for your curious nature, always
digging deeper into topics that interest you.
