Preston Jones grew up in Southern California, served in the U.S. Navy from 1986-1990 and now teaches
history and Latin at John Brown University. He has published over two hundred articles in general and
academic publications, and he is a contributing editor to Books & Culture and Critique. He runs one or
two marathons a year.


Greg Graffin is the singer and songwriter for the band Bad Religion. He holds a master's degree in
geology from UCLA and a Ph.D. in zoology from Cornell University. His favorite professional activity is
weaving scientific ideas and their implications into provocative songs with catchy melodies. His
