games for the Apple Arcade service, and
because all content is cross-platform and
entirely ad-free, we’re expecting to see some
big things from the service.


GROWING COMPETITION


Apple is not the only one trying to
revolutionize the entertainment industry,
however. We’re entering into new times where
cable-cutting has led networks and indeed
studios to take new approaches to content
distribution - and there’s no bigger new
entrant than Disney. Their new comprehensive
streaming platform, Disney Plus, will feature
all the shows and films the company has
produced since the 1930s, as well as tonnes
of original content. Indeed, the service will
have five hubs focusing on the major franchises
owned by Disney - Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star
Wars and National Geographic - and original
shows such as The Mandalorian and a reboot of
the 1955 animated classic Lady and the Tramp
are also set to launch with the new platform,
making Disney+ one of the industry’s most
compelling offerings to date.


New options from some of the world’s
biggest tech and entertainment companies
are available now or will be soon, including a
new HBO-based service from AT&T subsidiary
WarnerMedia, a new service from Discovery
and the BBC, HBO Max, which will launch in
Spring 2020, and an unnamed ad-supported
streaming service from NBCUniversal, which
will launch in 2020. Several other unannounced
streaming platforms also expected to arrive
in the coming years, further complicating
