Vulvovaginitis.
❍ What are the two most common infectious causes of vulvovaginitis in children?
Pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis) and Candida.
❍ What is the treatment of pinworm vaginitis?
Albendazole.
❍ What is the most common benign condition affecting the external genitalia?
Contact dermatitis.
❍ What condition does chronic vulvar contact dermatitis lead to?
Lichen simplex chronicus.
❍ How do you treat lichen simplex chronicus?
Avoid allergens including detergents, creams, fragrances and keep area dry with loose fitting clothes.
❍ What is hidradenitis suppurativa?
A chronic occlusion of the follicular glands in the perineum, vulva, and/or perianal.
❍ How does hidradenitis suppurativa present?
Ulcerated and draining sinuses with areas of abscess formation that causes pain, odor, and discomfort.
❍ How can recurrent episodes of hidradenitis suppurativa be prevented?
Routine gentle cleansing, weight loss, avoidance of skin trauma, and shaving.
