❍ How does the camera pedal work?
To engage the camera, the surgeon applies continues pressure on the camera pedal. The camera pedal locks the
three robotic operative arms and allows the master finger controls to freely move the robotic arm housing the
telescope.

❍ What are the functions of the pedals in the Da Vinci S-type and Si-type systems?
S: 4 pedals, 1 clutch, 2 cameras, 3 dead, 4 monopolar
Si: 1 camera, 2 bipolar, 3 monopolar, clutch to the left of pedal 1

❍ Where are the control panels found?
They are found on the surgeon’s console.

❍ What do the control panels do?
The left side of the console controls the camera, motion-scaling, and endoscopic calibration. The right side of the
console controls the system start control, emergency stop, and system standby.

❍ What happens when the emergency stop button is pressed?
The master controllers are immediately locked.

❍ How can the emergency stop button be reengaged?
The emergency stop button can be reengaged by pressing the fault override button.

❍ In a case of conversion to laparotomy, how can the system be rapidly disengaged?
The system can be placed on standby mode, removing the instruments, and releasing the arms from the ports.
Once the instruments are removed and the arm ports are released, the cart can then be wheeled away from
the field.

❍ Approximately how long does it take to disengage the robot to convert to laparotomy?
2 to 4 minutes.

❍ What other features are included in the surgical console?
Endoscopic cardiac stabilizer, ultrasonic instrumentation, and Gyrus plasma kinetic dissector.

❍ What is the role of the bedside surgical assistant?
They are used for irrigation, presentation, and retrieval of suture material and general surgical assistance.

❍ What types of gynecologic surgeries are most commonly performed robotically?
Hysterectomy (simple and radical), sacrocolpoplexy, myomectomy, tubal ligation reversal, severe endometriosis,
reconstructive pelvic surgery, and lymphadenectomy.
