So that a prince may approach?
I, the one and only Fairy Godmother,
Will cast a spell unlike any other!
With a wave of my wand I shall do it all,
So Cinderella can go to the ball!
Everything I said, I will do
With the magic words: Bibbity boppity boo!
Third prize 11 and up

The Music Spell
I take out my violin and set the music on the stand
And lift my bow to begin.
Across the room a gray sleeping form awakens.
First one eye opens and then the next,
And one ear tilts toward me,
As my cat stares at my violin, mesmerized....
As the f irst soothing notes echo across the room,
First a high note and then a low note,
Reaching my cat’s delicate ears,
Abracadabra! My violin has cast its musical spell!
As the rhythm becomes faster and faster,
My cat leaps off the bed and begins to pace.
With every note the music becomes louder and louder.
Her paws move in a frenzy until she is racing around the
house
As though she is possessed-bewitched by the music of
my violin.
I pause to rest my hand for a second.
She stops in her tracks and hops onto the bed.
I resume playing, but this time softly.
My cat begins feverishly scratching the bed.
She jumps down and begins running around in circles.
I f inally stop—my cat also stops,
And Behold! The spell is broken!
She glances around in surprise, wondering why she is
on the ground.
She leaps onto the bed and returns to her nap.
