Sundasciurus brookei (Thomas, 1892)

description: The upperparts are speckled brown, and the
underparts are gray with whitish tips on the hairs. It has an
orange patch between the hind legs. The tail is barred.
size: Female—HB 151.9 mm; T 122.1 mm; Mass 132.5 g.
Male—HB 153.9 mm; T 112.7 mm; Mass 124.0 g.
Sex not stated—HB 168.8 mm; T 136.0 mm; Mass 114.3 g.
distribution: This species is found in the northern, cen-
tral, and western mountains of the island of Borneo (divided
among Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and Indonesia), at el-
evations from 600 to 1500 m.
geographic variation: None.
conservation: IUCN status—least concern. Population
trend—no information.
habitat: This squirrel is found in tall forests on hill ranges.
natural history: S. brookei is diurnal and primarily
arboreal.

Sundasciurus davensis (Sanborn, 1952)
Davao Squirrel
description: This species has a line that runs down the
midd le of t he dorsa l surface, from t he nose to t he base of t he
tail. This line has hairs with a black base and russet tips, and
the line darkens as it progresses to the base of the tail. The
cheeks are buff y colored. The underparts are apricot buff.
The sides are clearly marked off from the back and the
lighter underparts. The median of the tail is russet, bor-
dered by black and an outer border of white. The ventral
surface of the tail is less russet.
