Strangely enough, much of the pressure for more inclusive, coopera-
tive forms of organ ization is now coming from commerce and industry.
For example, organ ization management specialist Charles Handy has
spoken of the benefi ts of “cognitive enfranchisement” of workers at all
levels of production. In their 50 Myths, Berliner and Glass say that “mod-
ern companies, including modern factories, have begun to realize the
potential of collaboration and have incorporated this method of work in
to their daily routines.”^34
Michael Norton has more recently summarized the “decreasing moti-
vation and labor productivity, impairing decision making, and increas-
ing ethical lapses” that arise with increasing in equality in workplaces. He
describes how behavioral research supports the benefi ts of what he calls
“unequality.”^35 Jodie Berg speaks of a “symbiotic vision” that arises from
alignment of personal and orga nizational consciousness: “When alignment
is felt through the sense of the greater purpose, there is a deep, almost
spiritual, commitment to making the world a better place and helping
the organ ization contribute to that.”^36
Th e organ ization Psychologists against Austerity have also earmarked
the general psychological outcomes of living in a healthy, well balanced
society and economy as:^37

Th ese are all aspects of the natu ral state of humans existing in the
cultural dynamics they were evolved to assimilate. But they are thwarted
by those who will maintain a gross imbalance of social intelligence and,
thereby, limits to human potential.
