Fruits
Ripe fruitsProtein, fat, fibre, carbohydrates (glucose, fructose, sucrose), minerals (Ca, P, Fe), Vitamins (ascorbic acid, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, carotene), amino acids, etc.
Stomachic, digestive, carminative, diuretic, dysentery and chronic diarrhoea, expectorant, sedative and tonic, relieves obesity, bleeding piles, wound of urinary tract, ringworm and skin disease psoriasis.
Excessive use of fruits causes diarrhoea, cold and increases the pain in hydrocele patients (common disease in NEPZ of India).
Unripe fruits.Citric acid, malic acid, palmitic acid, linolenic acid and glucose.
Laxative, diuretic, dried fruit reduces enlarged spleen and liver, used in case of snakebite to remove poison, abortifaciant, anti- implantation activity and antibacterial activity.
Seed
Fatty acids, crude protein, crude fiber, oil, carpaine, benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC), benzyl glucosinolate, glucotropacolin, benzylthiourea, hentriacontane, ß-sitostrol, caressing and enzyme myrosin.
Carminative, emmenagogue, vermifuge, abortifacient, counter irritant, in the treatment of ringworm (as paste), psoriasis and anti-fertility agent.
Excessive use of seeds causes bleeding in piles, enlarged liver, anti-fertility, anti-implantation affecting adversely the implantation by BITC.
