decide the question of women’s roles in the church today, a question that
should be decided solely on the basis of what Scripture says. (And peo-
ple who say they are looking both to Scripture and to prophecies in
actual practice will likely put more weight on the prophecies than on
Scripture.)
Many of the evangelical feminists who adopt such approaches to
contemporary prophecies about women in ministry have good inten-
tions and are seeking to honor God. But giving such weight to prophe-
cies in deciding a major doctrinal question is in actual fact undermining
the authority of Scripture. Leaders who follow this approach are thus
taking their churches another step toward liberalism.
