French architect and designer Emmanuelle Moureaux
celebrated the 10th anniversary of the National Art
Center of Tokyo by transforming its 2000-square metre
exhibition space into a kaleidoscopic paper-cut forest of
numbers. The installation visualises the next decade from
2017 to 2026 by aligning more than 60000 suspended
numerals (ranging from from 0 to 9) in three-dimensional
grids with each of the 10 layers representing one year.

Once installed a pathway was cut through the installation
so that visitors could explore the artwork which contains
100 different colours. Without the normal divides of the
gallery the exhibition had a certain stillness about it and
attracted over 20000 visitors in 10 days. “The tunnel is
my favourite part” says Moureaux. “Walking through a
multi-coloured forest of numbers surrounded by infinite
combinations was both a strange and amazing feeling.”
