YARN COMMUNITY

This month we chat to
Katherine Johnson of
baa ram ewe.
Tell us about baa
ram ewe...
Since opening in the
summer of 2009, baa
ram ewe has gone from
selling other brands to
making our own yarns,
all of which are spun
and dyed in Yorkshire.
Our yarns can now be found in more 300
stockists around the world. Our masterplan
is to make Yorkshire famous for wool
production across the world once more,
reconnecting to its rich woolly heritage.
We’ve put ourselves at the centre of this
renaissance, commanding worldwide appeal
for our luxurious and authentic wools.
What can knitters find and do at
baa ram ewe?
Situated in the Chapel Allerton area of Leeds,
renowned for its independent shops, baa ram
ewe is a cosy hub. We stock our full range
of baa ram ewe yarns, all spun and dyed in
Yorkshire from British fibres. We also stock a
wide selection of the best hand-knitting yarns
to inspire all our customers.
What will be the highlights for this year?
This summer baa ram ewe will be ten years old!
To celebrate our first decade we’re spinning
a special batch of Titus, our first-ever yarn,
in 12 shades from our signature palette, and
throwing a big launch party in the shop in
August. Titus is a stunning 4ply yarn with
a Yorkshire accent – a beautiful blend of
Wensleydale Longwool mixed with Britain’s
finest fleece, the Bluefaced Leicester. baa ram
ewe will be at Yarndale in Skipton in September
and we hope to meet Simply Knitting readers
there. It’s always a highlight to see our
customers across the country at these shows!

Eva is a cropped cardigan perfect
for layering over dresses or tops.
The ribbed neckband ties can be
worn knotted
or loose, and
the split sides
create flattering movement to
the garment. Worked top
down, the pattern is easy to
customise by adding length to
the body or sleeves.
