Figure 1. General step(s) used in homology modeling. First, one should obtain
protein sequence from a protein database with pre-acquired knowledge of that protein
if they don’t have the sequence of protein of interest. Second, an appropriate template
should be obtained by search protein structure database. Third, an alignment should
be generated between the template and the protein of interest. Finally, the alignment
is used as input of a homology modeling application to generate the final model
structure.


Materials



  • Information about your protein. For example, common name and gene
    symbol.


Procedure


I. Navigate to UniProt: http://www.uniprot.org/, or search UniProt in
the search engine (Fig. 2(a)).
II. Input name or gene symbol of your protein in the search bar. Use
advanced search option (on the right side of the search bar) when
appropriate.
