Pathway and network analysis allows us to integrate diverse ‘omic’ data
(genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, etc.) and interpret them into more
comprehensible biological pathways and networks that possibly underlie a
given complex biological system (e.g., certain cancers). In this chapter, we
illustrate the pathway and network analyses using the R programming lan-
guage, the most popular object-oriented statistical programming language
among biostatisticians and biomedical faculty with numerously available
R packages contributed by users around the world. These step-by-step
procedures would help you get more familiar with the skills and techniques
in cancer systems biology.
- Installation of R
You can go to https://www.r-project.org/ to download the latest version
of R. After R is properly installed, you can get started by opening an R
session and entering the commands as you want.
