This might explain why Apple’s press release
put such a strong emphasis on what the
company said would be a “powerful and
inspiring lineup of original shows, movies and
documentaries”, including the likes of See
starring Jason Momoa, drama The Morning
Show – which will both star and be executive-
produced by Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer
Aniston – and the darkly comedic Dickinson.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW ENTRY-LEVEL
iPAD A GENUINE SURPRISE

While the Apple Arcade and Apple TV+ services’
role in the keynote may have been to merely add
further detail to what we already knew, it’s fair
to say few observers were expecting a new iPad
to break cover. But it indeed did, with its screen
size of 10.2 inches the key headline, marking an
enlargement of its predecessor’s 9.7 inches.

That particular iPad was launched in March last
year, and the new seventh-generation tablet’s
larger display nudges it closer to the 11-inch
starter size for those purchasing an iPad Pro,
while also falling just shy of the 10.5-inch
screen that the iPad Air 3 – released just six
months ago – boasts.

But with the new iPad having been designed to
make the most of the potential of the also-new
and dedicated iPad OS operating system, it’s
worth noting that screen dimensions aren’t the
only factor causing comparisons to be made
with the Pro. That’s because such ‘Pro’ features as
more seamless multitasking, I/O upgrades, game
peripheral pairing and Apple Pencil and Smart
Keyboard compatibility are also all incorporated
into the new device.
