Alaska Natives see these signs, and they note the inaction of politi-
cians so far away in Washington, D.C., and they wonder if, yet again,
they will be abandoned to their fate, forced to endure the consequences
of actions not of their own making.
Back on Little Diomede, Anthony Soolook, Jr., sums it up. “Our
island is falling apart,” he says. “But who cares? Who will come and
help us, all the way out here?”
