Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice Thrid Edition: Model and Guidelines

(vip2019) #1

The final phase of the Practice question, Evidence, Translation (PET)
process is translation, which assesses the recommendations identified
in the evidence phase for transferability to a desired practice setting.
If appropriate, the practices are implemented, evaluated, and com-
municated both within and outside the organization. Translation is
the value-added step in evidence-based practice, leading to a change in
practice (EBP), processes, or systems and in resulting outcomes. This
chapter covers the translation phase of the PET process, which includes
the practice decision, implementation, and dissemination. This chapter:

■■ Examines criteria that determine recommendation for imple-
mentation
■■ Distinguishes among EBP, research, and quality improvement
(QI)
■■ Specifies the components of an action plan
■■ Identifies steps in implementing change
■■ Describes potential forums for communicating results
