Report Outcomes to Stakeholders

After the outcome evaluation, the team should follow up with a report to the ap-
propriate committee or decision-makers. Decision-makers can be members of a
committee, such as a research or quality improvement committee, or organization-
al leaders. In reporting the outcomes to stakeholders, carefully consider the initial
problem, the recommended practice change, and the project findings. What is the
most important information that needs to be conveyed to the stakeholder group?
What are the key messages? These messages should be aligned to the stakeholder
audience. For example, your presentation to the interprofessional stakeholder
group may differ from the key messages communicated to departmental leadership
(see Appendix J). The report should be a succinct communication, in executive
summary format, and consistent with organizational templates. Box 8.2 provides
an example of an executive summary framed in the PET template.

Problem
There is an increase in the incidence of postoperative pressure ulcers. When
patients are positioned in the operating room, the team uses multiple positioning
aids, and no standard exists for positioning based on the type of surgery.
Practice Question
What are the most effective interventions to prevent skin pressure in adult patients
undergoing surgery?
Evidence
CINAHL and PubMed were searched using the keywords perioperative or surgery,
AND positioning, AND pressure ulcers; 18 sources of evidence were reviewed (see
the following table).
