take the form of committees or conferences, internal meetings, publications in
newsletters, or the intranet.
Additionally, it may be appropriate to present results at professional conferences
or in suitable EBP publications, sharing lessons learned, actions that worked,
actions that did not, or the resulting clinical and fiscal outcomes, for example.
Methods of external dissemination may also include podium or poster presenta-
tions, publication in electronic media, or publication in journals whose focus is
quality improvement.
Specific guidance on how to develop abstracts, presentations, and publications
is available (Krenzischek & Newhouse, 2005). Attending presentations at local,
national, and international professional organizations or university conferences
is an excellent way to gain presentation experience. See Table 8.1 for links to
general and specialty organization websites. Search each website for appropriate
conferences, dates, and locations, and communicate the opportunity via elec-
tronic media such as group email, or the organization’s intranet. Announcements
of upcoming conferences generally include information about calls for abstracts;
each abstract has specific instructions for content, length, and responsibilities.
