Chapter 1: Evidence-Based Practice: Context, Concerns, and Challenges
Linda C. Pugh, PhD, RN, RNC, FAAN
Linda Pugh is a professor of nursing at the University of North Carolina
Wilmington and the past director of evidence-based practice/nursing research
at the York Hospital of Pennsylvania. Pugh co-authored the first edition of
Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice: Model and Guidelines.
As a certified obstetric nurse, she has provided care for childbearing women
for over 35 years and has taught nursing at the baccalaureate, masters, and
doctoral levels. She has been the recipient of numerous grants to support her
research on improving breastfeeding outcomes particularly with low-income
women. Pugh has published and presented her work internationally and
nationally.
Chapter 2: Critical Thinking and Evidence-Based Practice
Stephanie S. Poe, DNP, RN, RN-BC
Stephanie S. Poe is senior director of nursing quality and informatics at The
Johns Hopkins Hospital and the chief nursing information officer for The
Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System. Poe is widely published and is
considered an expert in patient safety, quality, and clinical informatics. She is
one of the original developers of the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based
Practice Model and Guidelines and the Johns Hopkins Fall Risk Assessment
Tool, both of which have been widely used nationally and internationally. She
served as an editor of the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice:
Implementation and Translation and Measuring Patient Safety books. Her re-
search areas of interest are patient portals, building capacity for informatics,
fall risk assessment, and medication reconciliation.
