Calanus pacificus females are about 170 μg dry weight, which at 40% carbon
includes 68 μg C. Thus, the ingestion of 1.1 μg C per copepod per hour (26.4 μg C
per day) is 39% of the body carbon per day.
(^) The maximum filtering rate exercised by the animals at low food density is about 8
ml per copepod per hour, or 192 ml per day. This turns out to be less than they can do
when previously starved. Runge (1980) showed that F values for this species can be
