Development rate (1/[egg to adult duration]) varied from ∼0.01 d−1 at 2°C to 0.1 d−1
(and 0.2 d−1 for some very small species) at 28°C (Fig. 7.20a). The modest scatter
agrees with Huntley and Lopez. Mean weight-specific growth rates of both freely
spawning (Fig 7.20b) and egg-carrying copepods increase from ∼0.1 to ∼0.5 d−1 in
the range 7 to 28°C, again in agreement, but with very large scatter, especially for
free-spawners. Rates below 0.1 d−1 were likely to be food limited. Rates above the
