(^) This model and others like it are being used as a basis for “ecosystem-based
management” of regional fisheries. Catches, Ci, can be regulated on the basis of the
partial insight embodied in the models, and to an extent results from those directed Ci
values can be used to improve the models. However successful this might be,
interaction of such management with political forces, especially the interest of
fishermen and fish processors in taking fish immediately, can be rocky.
