and fish production (Table 11.8). Extensive (but still incomplete) comparisons are
reported by Mackas et al. (2005), Fréon et al. (2009), and Quiñones et al. (2010).
There are distinct spatial subregions within each of the four EBCS where shelf width,
geographical features (e.g. capes), and differences in river inputs have significant
effects on nutrient supply, strength of upwelling, retention of plankton, and fish
production.
