118 Canine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation

The specific interventions used in rehabilitation
treatment may include manual therapy tech
niques (Chapter  6), therapeutic exercises, both
on land (Chapters 8 and 10) and in the aquatic
environment (Chapter  9), physical electromag
netic and thermodynamic modalities (Chapter 7),
and orthotics and prosthetics (Chapter  11).
Additional consideration for incorporation of
specialized techniques and treatments such as
myofascial trigger point therapy, regenerative
medicine interventions, and medical pain man
agement is appropriate when considering the
rehabilitation therapist’s scope of practice or
when referring to a specialist with this specific
skill set.
