xxii Monitoring Threatened Species and Ecological Communities

Centre for Integrative Ecology, Deakin University
The Centre for Integrative Ecology, Deakin University, carries out research to
understand how biodiversity responds to change. One of the key research programs
focuses on the conservation ecology of resident shorebirds. In conjunction with
BirdLife Australia, this group has championed adaptive management of several
shorebird species, and concentrated on developing sustainable conservation
solutions that promote the co-existence between people and birds.

Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Research, James Cook
University
The Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Research is Australia’s
premiere tropical aquatic research group. We undertake inf luential research in
fields related to water science, resource management and the ecology of water
ecosystems, with a special focus on achieving sustainable use of water resource
systems and water ecosystems.

Conservation and Landscape Ecology, The Australian National University
The Conservation and Landscape Ecology (CLE) group within the Fenner School
of Environment and Society is a research network focused on the dynamics of
populations, communities and ecosystems across Australian landscapes. CLE
emphasises field-based research, long-term ecology and research uptake in
environmental policy to enable sustainable natural resource management.

Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources, South Australia
The Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) is
South Australia’s key agency for the environment and natural resources. DEWNR
is a steward of natural resources, an environmental authority and a custodian of
natural and cultural heritage and crown lands. We encourage community
engagement, sustainable development and Aboriginal reconciliation.
