On the 21st, the ASO will explore silence – the iconic ‘13th
note’. This note, which is really the space between notes, is
used to invite meditative reflection in the audience. Over 60
minutes with no intervals, 43 ASO musicians will play works
by Debussy, Greig, Elgar and Faure. Guests can either book
a regular seat or a premium ticket – aka a yoga mat on the
floor – as they hold their applause and rest in silent
contemplation. http://www.aso.com.au

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably already figured out
that exercise makes you happier than money, but now it’s
official - at least according to a study by researches at
Yale and Oxford that gathered data from 1.2 million
Americans about the state of their mental health,
their rate of physical activity (including everything from
housework to weight lifting) and their economic status.
The study concluded that those who exercised had
43.2 percent fewer bad days than their sedentary
friends and felt just as good as individuals who earned an
average of $25,000 more but didn’t exercise. For the full
study, see http://www.thelancet.com and look for ‘Association
between physical exercise and mental health in 1·2 million
individuals in the USA.’

BRAVO BERLIN

In case you need a reason to visit Germany, here’s one –
they love yoga! So much so that the state labour court for
Berlin-Brandenburg has ruled that if a worker wants to take five
days of paid leave to attend a yoga course, they absolutely can.
Apparently, yoga is now considered professional development
and a special course has been designed to allow workers to
take their practice off the mat and into the office.
