of 65.2 million visitors arrived last year,
representing the ninth consecutive year for
tourism growth. Of the 13.1 million inter-
national visitors, 1,005,000 were Canadian;
this year, New York City is on track to wel-
come 1,039,000 visitors from Canada, 67
million visitors overall.
Chris Heywood, Executive Vice Presi-
dent, Global Communications for NYC &
Company, attributes this growth to the
continued vibrancy and appeal of New York
City, its “extraordinary” quality of life and
the continuous “New NYC” demand gen-
erators.
“When we looked
at all the 2019 ‘de-
mand generators’
coming to the city this
year, we determined
it was unprecedented
and decided to pack-
age it all together
under the banner of
‘2019 – A Monumen-
tal Year’,” he says. “New York City is a desti-
nation that continues to evolve and reinvent,
always offering the visitor something new
and exciting. The incredible vibrancy and un-

matched energy of the city are always iconic
draws, not to mention the destination’s acces-
sibility.”
