How can I transfer music
files to my MP3 player?
Q
I have lots of music files on my laptop and would
like to transfer them to an MP3 player. The list of
tracks comes up as an Apple playlist, and the MP
player doesn’t appear, so I can’t drag and drop the files. Is
there some software I can download to help me?
Ed Nicholls
A
It sounds like you’re using Apple’s iTunes software,
but you might have more luck with an alternative
music manager. Our favourite is MusicBee (https://
getmusicbee.com), which you can download for free from
http://www.snipca.com/41628 - click Get MusicBee Installer, then
the green Download button. Extract the contents of the ZIP
file and install the program.
When you first launch MusicBee, it will offer to import
tracks from iTunes, your Music folders and any other
folders you have music stored in, so tick all the options that
apply. Once it has imported the files, click the Configure
Layout button in the top-right corner of the program
window and choose Show Panel in the Left Sidebar menu.
This will display a list of your music library folders and all
the drives connected to your PC. When you plug your MP
player into your laptop, it should appear under Devices at
the bottom of the list (see screenshot below). If not, click
the menu button in the top-left corner and choose Edit
Preferences then Devices. If your MP3 player isn’t listed
there either, click Add Virtual Device and select it that way.
You should now be able to drag and drop music files from
your MusicBee library to your MP3 player. Click the arrow
next to the name of your MP3 player in the Devices list to
open its folder tree and drag tracks to the Music folder.
WEB BROWSER
PASSWORD-RECOVERY TOOL
Vivaldi 5.
http://www.snipca.com/
What you need: Windows 7, 8.1, 10 or 11, macOS or Linux
The innovative Vivaldi
browser has been updated
with two useful new
features. The first is a
Reading List option in the
browser’s side panel,
which gives you one-click
access to web pages you’ve
saved to your Reading List.
You can search items in your list and sort them by title, date
or ‘read state’, which prioritises articles you haven’t read yet.
If you can’t see the book-shaped button that lets you add
content to your list, open the main Vivaldi menu, choose
Settings then Address Bar, and tick the box next to Show
Reading List Button.
The other new feature brings Vivaldi in line with Brave
(www.brave.com) by telling you how many ads and trackers
its privacy tools have blocked. You can see these ‘privacy
statistics’ on your new tab page (see screenshot) - click ‘More
information’ to find out which sites have tried to track you.
ExtPassword 1.
http://www.snipca.com/
What you need: Windows 7, 8.1, 10 or 11
The latest free tool from
prolific developer NirSoft
lets you recover forgotten
passwords that are stored
on external hard drives,
including USB sticks.
Download ExtPassword,
extract the contents of the
ZIP file and run the program. Click ‘More info’ then ‘Run
anyway’ if Microsoft Defender SmartScreen displays a
warning. When ExtPassword opens, click Run As
Administrator, then select your drive’s letter in the External
Drive Path dropdown menu. Click OK and the tool will scan
the drive and list all the passwords it finds, as well as product
licence keys, wireless network keys and even Windows
security questions and answers. Right-click an entry and
choose Properties (see screenshot above) to view more
information about it and copy the password to paste
elsewhere. ExtPassword may also find passwords and keys on
internal drives - click its Options menu and select
ExtPassword Options to try another drive.
