Mourning
Peter Lyoya throws a flower into
the grave of his son Patrick Lyoya,
an unarmed 26-year-old Black
man who was fatally shot by a
Grand Rapids police officer after a
struggle following an April 4 traffic
stop. Hundreds attended the
April 22 funeral, which followed
protests in the city of 200,000 and
elsewhere in Michigan. Three days
after the graveside ceremony,
officials satisfied one of the
protesters’ demands, releasing
the name of the officer involved.
