This action-RPG takes place far in the

future, atime when the people of Earth

have goneon to populate other areas of

space led by gods.And by gods, we’re

talking billionaires evolvedby science to

the point they’re undying,domineering

dictators of the universe. Youplay

one of their lackeys.

Not only have these gods altered

themselves, but they’ve alsotaken

on an army of supercharged

mercenaries (that’s you)called Enforcers.

Which doesn’t exactly makeit sound like

you’re playingthe good guys,right?Well it

seems like that’s a key part of the story–

you’re going tohave to explore theidea of

what beinga hero really means in the face

of metaphorically parasitic employers,but

also literally parasitic alien beings called

the Corruption. You’llhave to face this

threat while acknowledging your partin

the dystopian future of the human race

• and, seemingly, uncoveringa dark
  conspiracy onyour ownside.
  All that’s very intriguing, but where
  Superfusereally drew me in was when I
  saw itscombat system. The game aims to
  allow youto fullycrafta superhero’s

abilities and powers, right downto the

finest details.

I got to go hands-on with oneof the

base characters, the Berserker. Each hero

will have their own set of talents and

abilities, and this muscle-bound monster

can be exactly what you’dexpect –

namely a tank with a huge axe who makes

a mess of the enemy.But equally,with the

right options, those broad shoulders can

be just for show.You can make your

Berserkerinto more a squishy wizard

type, for example, justby investing in the

right paths.

HERO WORSHIP

Each talent can be individually customised

to your liking. Youwant your axeslam

move to launch you forward? Yougot it.

How about upon use the area of effect

splits more and more?Yeah you can do

that too.Or maybe it’s splitting too much

and youwant tonarrow its focus and

make its range larger? Yep, fully up to you

mate. Even justa basic lightning blast lets

you choose exactly what it does upon

casting, upon hitting an enemy,upon

killing an enemy, all the way up to what it

does as an after-effect. Every time I

thought I’dseen it all, a new layer of

customisation was revealed. The

vision of Superfusereally isthat

detailed, and it’s upto you to

construct your superhero exactly the way

you likethem.

The bestpart? You can do all this on

the fly and respec at will. If you’re not quite

happy with the wayyou’ve crafted your

melee attack, oryou think an explosion of

lightning is more suited tothe beginning of

your cast, rather than the end,you can

change thatat any moment away from

combat. Reassess onthe go. Full combat

customisationfreedom.Neat.

This is looking like farmore than just

another injection ofsuperherocontent,

then. Not only does thewildly extensive

customisation play into anyone’s comic

book fantasies, it opensthe floor to a

ridiculous varietyof builds and playstyles

for min-maxers and numbernerds – just

the thing for keeping an action-RPGas

fresh aspossible for as long aspossible. If

only therewas a talent we could equip that

would force the developerto give usa

release date...

K, so we’re all a little tired of

superheroes at this point. With the ever

growing Marvel Cinematic Universe and

however many Batmans we have now,

you probably think you’ve had enough of both

great powers and great responsibilities. But I

promise you you’ve never seen superheroes quite

like the ones in Superfuse.
