oncerned about the environment and the climate crisis,
Regeneron Science Talent Search inalist Roberto Lopez
(pictured above) studied how dead leaves from a globally
invasive plant are harmful to the health of native salt marsh plants
in a New York state park near his home, reducing the ability of the
marsh to store carbon dioxide, key to mitigating climate change.

Today, we face global challenges, from the pandemic to the climate
crisis. We need new generations of innovative scientists and
engineers like Roberto, who have been inspired and supported by
the Society’s STEM programming and science journalism, to help us
meet these and other challenges in the years ahead.

Society for Science inspires the next generation of scientists and
engineers to address the world’s most diƒ icult problems through
our world-class STEM research competitions and our trusted and
comprehensive science journalism. But we can’t do it without
your help.
