SVS PRIME PINNACLE

SVS, best-known for its range of award-win-
ning subwoofers, has released a pair of floor-
standing stereo loudspeakers called Pinnacle,
so-called because they’re at the top of the
company’s ‘Prime’ range of loudspeakers. The
SVS Prime Pinnacle has three 165mm-diameter
bass drivers, each in its own separate ported
sub-enclosure, a 133mm fibreglass composite
cone midrange driver and a 25mm aluminium
domed tweeter. It is rated with a frequency
response of 29Hz–25kHz ±3dB, a sensitivity
of 88dBSPL (2.83V @ 1 metre) and a nominal
impedance of 8Ω. ‘The fact each bass driver
has its own separate sub-enclosure, with each
port tuned to a different frequency, epitomises the
no-compromise approach SVS has taken with the
Prime Pinnacle,’ said Sam Encel of Interdyn,
which distributes SVS in Australia. ‘This unique

with lifelike realism effortlessly reveals musical
and cinematic details with unerring clarity, even
at reference volume’, said Encel, ‘while the dif-
fuser ensures broad dispersion for a wide and con-
vincing soundstage with pinpoint on- and off-axis
frequency response so everyone in a home theatre
or listening room is treated to the same world-class
audio experience.’
The new SVS Prime Pinnacle has been
timbre-matched to integrate with any speaker
from SVS’s Prime or Ultra Series to enable
flexibility when building a home theatre
speaker system. ‘When we set out to design the
Prime Pinnacle speaker, it was supposed to be a
straightforward execution that came as close to the
performance of our reference Ultra Tower as pos-
sible, but in a more room-friendly cabinet design
and at a lower price,’ said Gary Yacoubian,
PresidentofSVS.

MONITOR AUDIO GOLD 300 FLAGSHIP

The Gold 300 is the flagship model in Monitor Audio’s ‘Gold’ range,
and it’s now available in Australia. In common with the Gold 200, the
model immediately beneath it in the range, the Monitor Audio Gold
300 is a three-way, four-driver, bass reflex floor-standing loudspeaker
design with rear-firing bass reflex ports. In fact the midrange and
high-frequency drives in the Gold 300 are identical to those fitted to
the 200—a ceramic-coated aluminium-magnesium 65mm diameter
midrange cone driver, a metal alloy 65mm diameter C-CAM midrange
driver and a Micro Pleated Diaphragm (MPD) high-frequency transduc-
er based on the air motion transformer design invented by loudspeaker
pioneer Oskar Heil.
However, the two bass drivers used in the Gold 300 are larger than
those used in the Gold 200, each one measuring 203mm in diameter.
The construction of the drivers is, however, the same despite the
increase in cone diameter, with a Nomex core material sandwiched
between a layer of ceramic-coated aluminium-magnesium cone (at
the front) and a layer of woven carbon fibre cone (at the rear), using
a technique Monitor Audio refers to as ‘RDT II’. The company claims
this layered construction reduces cone distortion by more than 8dB at
frequencies above 300 Hz compared to an ordinary carbon-fibre cone.
The cabinet of the Gold 300 is also substantially larger than that of the
Gold 200, though the industrial design makes both cabinets appear
to be smaller than they actually are. ‘Thanks to the pair of rear-facing
HiVe II ports delivering smooth airflow and ample bass reinforcement, plus
the twin large front-firing woofers, the Monitor Audio Gold 300 is the ideal
speaker for larger rooms,’ said Paul Clarke, General Manager of APlus
Brands (a division of Interdyn), which distributes Monitor Audio in
Australia. ‘Its punch and dynamism are matched only by its subtlety and
fidelity. The Gold 300’s effortless authority, from a crisp 50kHz in the high
frequencies to an earth-shaking 30Hz in the low frequencies, makes it perfect
for any and all listening requirements.’
Available now in a wide range of finishes, Monitor Audio’s Gold
300 speakers retail for $9,999 per pair (RRP).
