This young Hybrid Tea rose has
grown leggy, and is ravaged by scale
and black spot. Pruning will remove
most of this, then it’s worth treating
the plant with lime sulfur to kill any
remaining insects and disease spores.

PRUNE
1 QUICKLY remove half the length of
the branches, to make pruning easier.
2 MAKE more refi ned cuts, pruning
just above an outward facing bud. Don’t
be shy to prune hard – roses love it!
3 REMOVE crossed and crowded
branches to increase air circulation.
4 COLLECT prunings and, if diseased,
dispose of them in the rubbish bin.
