Roadracing World – April 2019

Last pass: Check the website for your track day organization, do anything it requires, and then turn the bike on and make sure it runs. Pulling fuses can cause a modern sportbike to develop a new personality—one that doesn't want to get out of bed! Tape up (or cover) the headlights and brake lights and turn signals if required. While removing the mirrors may or may not be necessary, I like to do it if at all possible. What you can end up with after a few hours in the garage is a bike that looks as good as it can, is adjusted to your own preferences, and gives you the confidence that everything is work- ing as it should when you go blasting down the straight or barreling into a crazy-fast sweeping turn. That’s not a bad payoff for spending a few hours of quality time with your motorcycle. And my annual personal plea: Make the
world a better-looking place by trimming the tape
around the headlight, or use nice and neat, com-
mercially available stick-on lens covers. Please!

(Above) A chain that’s too tight will affect the way
your suspension moves, and one that is too loose
can make throttle inputs feel sloppy. Clean and
lube the chain, and adjust the slack. (Below) Trim
tape applied over headlight lenses, or install neat
stick-on covers. Photo by caliphotopgraphy.com.
