can’t fully explain until you get to witness it first
hand but its a visual feast of all dress codes with
looks from Americana to barely there along with
the” are you serious “looks as well and thats even
before the party hour starts.
Heaps of fun and yes some booze ,lots of music
and serious partying had by all and if you have a
cooler (chilly bin) on wheels feel free to bring it
with you but know the legal rules as well. Check the
IMS site so you don’t end up losing it be warned.
Maybe you might even get to ride a mechanical
buffalo that certainly was a sight I wont forget from
last year and my very first Carb Day.
Along with this there is the other very cool thing
you see arriving at the track and the surrounding
streets and thats the porch parties. They surround
the streets leading to the speedway scattered
around the outside of the track with all the local
residents supporting their favourite driver and
hanging out, race paraphernalia a plenty as they
party with friends family and racegoers and even
those they have never meet before because after
all they all share one thing and its called Indy. It’s a
living and breathing thing thats called the 500 and
the mania for these few days that lead up to this
amazing event.
Every day before race day is exciting in its
own way.
The most famous downtown parade the day
before the race is really amazing with lots of
floats, bands and some really cool tricks from
the motorcycle police and those amazing giant
balloons. All the drivers take part and lined up in
the rows of three to form the final grid of 33 with
their partners and family all basking in the glory of
admiration from the crowd just some twenty four
hours before the day becomes very serious as the
race gets underway.
In a mere 24 hours from the time the
downtown streets are cleared from the parade a
driver will make history just a few miles down the
road and become the winner of the 103rd running
of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing the Indy 500. l
