THE COOKBOOK HOLDER
After
The vertical lines of the V-joint panels
add extra visual interest and texture.
Geraldine was a keen DIYer and had
handpainted the tile splashback of
her kitchen all those years ago. To
pay homage to her handiwork, Barry
repurposed some of the old tiles and
turned them into something practical
for the kitchen – a cookbook holder.
He used a piece of V-joint panelling
for the back piece. By simply adjusting
his circular saw to a 7.5° angle, he was
able to cut the base edge of the back so
the holder sits at a slight lean. Barry
then cut the back edge of the base piece
to the same angle so the two pieces it
together perfectly.
A border trim was added to the front,
and a stand to the back. Everything was
secured with adhesive and nails before
coats of primer and paint were applied.
Barry then used a hot glue gun to
secure Geraldine’s lovely handpainted
tiles to decorate the holder. his small
piece of Grandma’s original kitchen will
hold great memories for all the family. ❖
Barry preserved the personal
touches by using the
handpainted tiles to decorate
a cookbook holder.
