O^1 Cut the plywood
For the top of the mixer, measure a
450 x 350mm rectangle from 4mm
hardwood ply wood. Cut using a circular
saw. For the two deck bases, cut two
420 x 320mm rectangles from 32mm
ply wood using a circular saw.
TIP You can vary these measurements
according to your requirements, and
use any type of ply wood you like.

O^2 Cut the sides
Measure the sides for the mixer box
using the top as a guide. hen, using
a tenon saw and mitrebox clamped
securely to a work surface, cut mitred
corners for each piece. Fit the sides to
the top and secure with adhesive and
bullet-head nails.
TIP Fit the sides one by one and measure
the next against the itted pieces.

O^3 Mark the elements
Use a combination square to mark
where the elements will go on the mixer
top (this mixer utilised an existing
timber abacus and a plastic nuts and
bolts kit). Mark a rectangle for the
abacus, then mark the positions for
the holes and slots for the various
elements, ensuring the spacing is
suitable for other items in the kit.

O^4 Cut the slots and holes
Drill holes for the elements with
a 12mm drill bit, predrilling holes if
needed. Test-it with a toy bolt, then
enlarge the holes using a round ile, if
needed. Cut slots for the channel levels
and crossfader using a jigsaw. Drill
holes at each corner of the rectangle to
make cutting easier, then use a jigsaw
to make the cut-out for the abacus.

O^5 Fit the elements
Sand the top of the mixer with 80 grit,
then 120 grit, sandpaper. Fit the short
bolts in the slots and holes, securing
on the underside with plastic nuts.
For long bolts, use other pieces of the
kit to raise them slightly. Position the
abacus and secure with adhesive,
then use tung or hemp oil and a rag
to seal the timber.

O^6 Drill holes for cable plugs
At the rear of the mixer box, drill
a selection of holes using 3mm and
6mm drill bits to it diferent-sized plugs
and cables – your helping hand will be
able to indicate which sizes are required
for their particular set-up. Also drill
a few holes at the front of the mixer box
to be used for headphones, and at the
rear of each of the deck bases for cables.
