O^1 Paint the plywood and MDF
Paint the ply wood for the deck bases
with watered-down white acrylic. Use
a compass to ind the centre point of
the discs, then using a 10mm drill bit,
drill holes in the centres of each disc.
Paint the turntables with silver acrylic
and the records with black acrylic. Draw
circles with a 40mm radius on paper for
labels, then cut out with scissors.

O^2 Cut dowel for the turntable
From the dowel, cut two 50mm long
pieces for the turntable spindles and
two 205mm long pieces for the tone
arms. Sand thoroughly to round over
both ends of the tone arms and one
end of the spindles. From the scrap
of 50mm thick red cedar, use a 54mm
hole saw to cut two cylinders for the
tone arms to swing on.

O^3 Attach turntable to gears
Use a 65mm hole saw to cut two discs
from hardwood ply to be used as spacers
for under the turntables. Attach each
spacer to the centre of a large gear with
adhesive. Leave to dry under a weight.
Adhere the spindles to the turntables
and leave to dry. Attach the turntables
to the spacers and gears also using
adhesive, weigh down and leave to dry.

O^4 Test-fit the elements
Test-t the elements on the deck bases.
Mark positions in pencil, then remove.
Using a 51mm hole saw, drill holes for
the bases of the tone arms to sit in. Cut
two discs with a 54mm hole saw from
the scrap of 16mm ply wood. hese will
sit in the holes. Tape over the holes’
underside with fabric tape, position
the discs, then attach with adhesive.

O^5 Make the tone arms
hread the wire through the holes in the
cedar cylinders, wrap it around the tone
arms a few times, then poke it back
through the holes. Secure at the base
with a spare bolt, then trim the excess
with pliers. Line the holes for each tone
arm base with black felt lining tape,
then push into place. he it should be
irm but still removable.

O^6 Attach the elements
Reposition the gears on each deck,
secure with adhesive and weigh down
to dry. Cut two discs for the start/stop
buttons from a scrap of hardwood
plywood using a 54mm hole saw, then
secure with adhesive. Attach the
numbers for the unit model number.
TIP For DJs playing vinyl, Technics
1210s were the industry standard. ❖
