Main. Leaping Lorenzo! A second successive victory, on home soil, and beating his future teammate... it was
just too much for Jorge to contain 1. Another uncharacteristic crash left Dovizioso dejected and virtually
out of title contention 2. It has taken more than a year for Ducati to finally make Lorenzo’s bike more
comfortable for the multiple world champion 3. Once Dovizioso was out, Marquez settled for second and an
extended points lead over Rossi 4. A lonely ride to third for the veteran

The Catalunya circuit is the
so-called ‘home’ race of
no fewer than seven
premier-class MotoGP stars,
including Marc Marquez, Jorge
Lorenzo, Maverick Vinales
and Dani Pedrosa. After heavy
criticism of the deteriorating
surface last year, the circuit was
resurfaced in the lead-up to the

I was in the group with Maverick,
not having to spin and trying to
save the tyres. I thought top ten
(finish) for sure. Then all of a
sudden the bike started feeling
like it was cutting out. Step by
step it got worse, and I had to
stop ... because of a shitty fuel
pump.
I was struggling a lot with
the bike ... the front closing
everywhere, vibrating and
chattering. I’m not sure if I would
have been any faster if I’d been
in better condition – but I’d have
been closer to the top 10. In the
last 10 laps I was so out of breath
and dizzy I didn’t even know
where I was on the track.
hot afternoon, none more
spectacular than Tito Rabat’s
f laming blow-up at the end
of the straight. The Avintia
Ducati rider had pushed
through to ninth when it
happened, bringing out the
oil f lags with six laps to go.
Lorenzo’s second win was
surely bitter-sweet for him
and the team after the parting
of the ways – although he said
“one thing I have learned [in
life] is never to look back.”
It came on soft tyres front
and rear, while closest rival
Marquez was one of only
two riders (the other being
Morbidelli) to choose the
hard compound both ends.
